Ombudsman: A decision arrived late

Mr Stephen was suspended last week.

Kochi: The state police on Wednesday named Irinjalakkuda ASP Kiran Narayan as the investigating officer in the controversial Jishnu suicide case.

Jishnu, the 18-year-old engineering student of Nehru College, Pampadi, committed suicide after he was allegedly harassed by the college management.

The investigation was initially headed by DySP Biju K. Stephen. But the police shuffled the investigation team after it was noted that Mr Stephen’s suspension order in an assessment of wealth disproportionate to known sources of income case has not yet been notified. Mr Stephen was suspended last week.

Now, Mr Narayan will head the probe. At present, the probe team considers the death as a suicide case. The state educational department had also launched a separate probe into the incident.
