Tirupati: Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) aims to train citizens of Tirupati in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) by conducting “Mega CPR Programme.” To start this, SVIMS is aiming to train up to 25,000 people in observance of its silver jubilee celebrations.
The institute initiated 'training the trainers' for Community CPR last month and completed training 400 of its doctors, nurses, students and staff. A core group of 30 instructors underwent CPR training and were familiarised in the use of CPR. By next week, 3,000 SVIMS personnel will be trained in community CPR. This will be followed by a training for TTD staff.
The aim of the institute is to make every citizen be first responder, competent to provide CPR during the first few 'Platinum Minutes' until professional medical care arrives. "By equipping people with this emergency first aid technique the number of deaths caused due to heart attack can be reduced,” says the Director and Vice Chancellor SVIMS Dr. T.S. Ravikumar.
