Short films, the new wave in Vijayawada

We spend a mere Rs 50,000 to Rs 1,00,000 for a short film, says filmmaker.

Vijayawada: Their dream is the silver screen. However, they don’t have the opportunity to reach there. But now with YouTube as a platform they have found a way to show their talent, by making short films. Youth in Vijayawada dream of the silver screen. Engineering students and even intermediate students have now been getting into short filmmaking. Almost 100 youth are currently making short films in Vijayawada, with almost 50 short films released on YouTube this year. A person with a passion for movies will try to go to Hyderabad. There he tests his luck. If it works out, his dream comes true, if not he has to suffer much disappointment in that city.

Youth who do not want take such a risk, are trying their luck on YouTube. The students of Vijayawada are making short films and posting them on YouTube, eagerly awaiting the response of millions. Mr Akshay Pirapu, who released a short film, “Mana Katha”, got an award for it in Hyderabad. He said, “We are very passionate about films and are striving hard to make them.

“We do not have a film circle or any contacts in Hyderabad. We are confident we can make it here in Vijayawada with our own contacts. We incur an expenditure of Rs 50,000 to Rs1,00,000, for which we are searching for sponsors. Even after taking so much trouble, we will still be happy to see our film on YouTube,”he added. Mr Sagar, who made the short film “Kaliyugamlo Seeta” recently, spoke to DC.

“We are getting portfolios easily through social media. As for making a film, we are working as a team of aspirants, so that the budget can be minimised. Instead of going to Hyderabad, we can attract the industry people by showing our talent on YouTube”. A new trend in this field is making ‘cover songs’. Shooting a dance sequence for a hit song from the latest movie and posting it on You Tube is another option being selected by students. For this, there may not be much expense, only artistes who are enthusiastic will be selected and the shooting will be completed quickly.
