Outer Ring Road service road still haunts motorists

They claim that despite several reminders, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority has turned a blind eye to the issue.

Hyderabad: After Kokapet, commuters are now complaining about the bad service roads on the Outer Ring Road (ORR), from Nanakramguda to Wipro Lake.

They claim that despite several reminders, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority has turned a blind eye to the issue.

Mr M. Saikanth, who works in the software industry and a regular commuter, said that the Nanakramguda ORR service road up to Wipro Lake has become an important one for IT employees and others. Vexed with the attitude of HMDA authorities, he asked municipal administration minister K.T. Rama Rao and principal secretary Arvind Kumar to see that repairs were carried out on the stretch of road immediately.

Echoing his concern, Mr Ajay Reddy, another commuter who goes past Wipro Lake, said this stretch has become an arterial road especially for two-wheelers who cannot travel on the ORR. Though a complaint was registered with the municipal authority six months ago, the authorities are yet to take note of it.

Mr Reddy said that the officials were not even responding to the grievances posted on social media.

Reacting to these complaints, ORR chief general manager B.L.N. Reddy said that HMDA had started work on repairing the roads. He said that impatient commuters are posting videos of bad roads on social media though work is in progress.

Asked whether tenders have been invited for the road work, constructing speed breakers and installing streetlights, Mr Reddy said that the municipal authority that the tenders for Kokapet service road maintainence will be finalised on November 25 and the work order will be given within a week of that.

The Cyberabad police after conducting a ground level survey instructed the HMDA to instal LED lights from Kokapet to the Financial District on priority. The police specifically asked the municipal authority to instal LED lights at an underpass near Vertex Panache apartments for the safety of women.

To safeguard the lives of two-wheeler riders, it has asked the HMDA to construct scientific speed breakers to restrict the speed of four wheelers. The Cyberabad police also told the HMDA to install amber flash lighting at Kokapet rotary and near the vehicle underpass.
