Army officers plan to stay in Hyderabad

Around 20 colonel rank Army officers based in Hyderabad are on two-year study leave from service.

Hyderabad: Army officers’ who have made Hyderabad their home have already prepared their post retirement plans.

Around 20 colonel rank Army officers based in Hyderabad are on two year study leave from service. They are doing post graduation in specialised management courses in city universities.

The most sought after courses are master’s in business management, hospitality, operations research, logistics and human resources. They are doing these courses at Osmania University, Bharatiya Vidhya Bhavan and one of them at the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI). Once they graduate they will have to serve the Army for at least three years.

Colonel Rabjeet is studying for a course in supply chain management and information technology. He intends to set up a security system business post retirement. “This two year study leave will enhance my service and reinforce my specialisation,” he said.

Col. Vikram Singh is doing his master’s in hospital administration at a city hospital and Col. Jai Kumar is studying for the supply chain management course. Col. Tushar Bakey, who is studying hospital management at ASCI, said, “My expertise can be used in the medical field while I serve the force. Also, I have taken up the assignment as a post retirement plan.”

“The services offer officers’ the facility of availing study leave of maximum two years. Study leave enables serving officers to prepare for a second career,” explained Major Shiva Kiran (rtd).
