Kozhikode: District collector N. Prasanth warned the owners of private buses in the district that the permit of buses would be cancelled if any of the employees misbehave with students. Legal measures also would be initiated against the employees, he added.

While addressing the Students Travel Facility committee meeting held at the Collectorate on Wednesday, Mr Prasanth said that innumerable complaints had been flowing in about the arrogant attitude of bus employees. A student had a narrow escape the other day when the bus moved forward while a student was boarding the bus. The student fell down on the road, he said.

Denying travel for students, allowing only a limited number of students, not permitting students to board buses till others step in, denying seats, speaking bad words and forcing them to get down midway were to be reported to the concerned officials, he added.

Discrimination against passengers on the grounds that they were seniors and students was a violation of rules for getting a bus permit, he added. The meeting also granted the prayer of bus owners to prevent students to nearby areas from sitting in the long route buses starting from Kozhikode bus stand much in advance.

The district collector also directed the RTO, police and other officials to take action against erring buses and employees in cases of overspeeding and dangerous driving.

City police commissioner Uma Behra, Kozhikode RTO CJ Polson, Vadakara RTO Vinesh TC and representatives of bus owners, students' organizations among others participated in the meeting.
