Vijayawada: The decision of Krishna district collector Babu A. to give Mr Satyam Babu — who was acquitted of the murder of Ayesha Meera by the High Court — a house and an outsourcing job has left the city police red-faced. The police is in the process of preparing for an appeal in the Meera case.
On Monday, Mr Satyam Babu along with his mother, Ms Maryiamma, met collector Babu at his office, seeking his help. After the meeting, Mr Satyam Babu told the media that the collector had promised him a job and a house, and a job for his sister on contract.
The police is analysing the High Court judgement and trying to plug the holes in the prosecution arguments. The police is waiting for the DGP N. Sambasiva Rao to return to the city from his official visit to Israel.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has reportedly told senior officials that he would take a decision on filing an appeal after discussing the matter with the DGP.
The Chief Minister is of the view that a decision should be taken with utmost care, as the credibility of the department was at stake.
A police source said giving Mr Satyam Babu a house and job from the government would amount to giving him a clean chit.
It would would also mean trashing the chargesheet that the police had filed against him. This would be a slap on the face of the police
Collector Babu said, “As the High Court has acquitted Mr Satyam Babu, and considering his family situation, we have taken a decision to help him. If the police goes for an appeal and something else comes out in future, the rules will prevail upon the future verdict.”
