Andhra Pradesh: SHE teams to spread across all towns

Team members would be in mufti to nab culprits.

KAKINADA: Deputy Chief Minister and home minister Nimmakayala China-rajappa said SHE teams would be set up in all towns in a phased manner.
The teams were formed in Kakinada Smart City on Saturday where Mr Rajappa unveiled the logo. He said SHE teams had already been set up in Vijayawada and Rajahmundry and would be spread across the state in a phased manner.

The teams were working for eradicating the menace of eve-teasing in cities and also efforts were on to eradicate it in villages with the help of local communities. This would be taken up two districts as a pilot project. With the formation of SHE teams, women would be safe and there would be CCTV camera surveillance so that could do their jobs without fear or harassment, he added. The team members would be in mufti and nab eve-teasers and criminals.

Mr Rajappa said the expansion of technology had good and bad results and “we should give up the bad and make use of the good’’. He said the Telugu Desam government was giving priority to women and they were being given 30 per cent reservations even in recent police recruitment. Superintendent of Police Vishal Gunni said SHE teams consisting of a women sub-inspector, two women constables and two male constables would be deployed in the identified eve-teasing areas. They would be in mufti if they found eve teasers or wrongdoers, the teams would call their parents and counsel them.

He said that if any girl or woman lodged a complaint with the police, the information would be kept secret. People could lodge complaints to the SHE teams dialling 100 or Sheteam Kda through Facebook or WhatsApp number 9494933233. They could also contact the DSP office at Two Town directly. He promised action in 24 hours.
