Bengaluru: Temple lit up with illegal halogen light

BBMP initially refused to take action and asked the victim, Mr Prashant Rao, to update the issue on Fix My Street app.

Bengaluru: An illegally installed halogen light from his domestic connection to light up a temple led to a power cut of over 20 hours in the house of a resident of Thyagarajanagar in the first week of October, and though he complained to the BBMP, no action was taken.

BBMP initially refused to take action and asked the victim, Mr Prashant Rao, to update the issue on Fix My Street app.

“There was intermittent power supply for the first few hours and then it was gone completely. When I complained, Bescom officials came near our house, checked and told us that the connection had been drawn from my domestic line. In the meantime, I could not even use the water pump and we were left with no water too,” Mr Rao said.

Mr Rao said the BBMP refused to interfere as the issue had to do with a temple. The temple is said to have encroached the footpath and keeps playing loud music from speakers disturbing peace in the residential area. Mr Rao had brought these issues to the notice of civic authorities in the past.

He also pointed out that an illegally constructed building next to his house is blocking natural light and he is now forced to use lights indoors round the clock. “The fire safety department has declared the property illegal. The BBMP and Karnataka Appellate Tribunal have locked horns over demolishing the illegal structure,” he said.

Mr Rao said that Part IVA of the Constitution deals with fundamental duties and it says the duty of every citizen is to protect public property.

Documents related to the case are with D.C.
