Hyderabad: Nallakunta residents irked by classes on holidays

Working on holidays deprives the students of their basic rights.

Hyderabad: Residents at Nallakunta complained that a junior college in the area is working even on second Saturdays and Sunday when it ought to be closed. The residents alleged that this was creating a nuisance on holidays.

The Nallakunta police initiated an inquiry after receiving the complaint from the residents and Forum against Corruption.

Mr K.C. Prakash Rao, a resident of Nallakunta, who also raised a complaint, said, “Nano Junior College which is running from a residential apartment runs on second Saturdays and Sundays. The students conduct protests when the colleges don’t give them holidays on weekends, which creates a nuisance for the residents.”

He said the college was located adjacent his flat in a residential building and also ran a hostel. “They also maintain a tin-shed kitchen on the terrace where they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner to their children, which also creates disturbance for the residents,” Mr Prakash Rao said

Mr Vijay Gopal, president, Forum Against Corruption, said, “The college operates beyond the permitted time, and is operating out of a matchbox-like building with no safety measures. Working on holidays deprives the students of their basic rights. The GHMC is ignoring the issue.”

He said a police complaint would also be filed under Section 336 of the IPC (endangering life or personal safety). This reporter attempted to get in touch with officials of the junior college but they were not available for comment.
