Jagan Mohan Reddy's wife named accused in ED case

Y.S. Bharathi was not an accused before.

Hyderabad: In a major development in the illegal investments case of YSR Congress president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Enforcement Directorate has shown Ms Y.S. Bharathi, wife of Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, as an accused in the Raghuram (Bharathi) Cements case in the chargesheet filed before the Special CBI court of the city.

The ED in its charge sheet listed Ms Bharathi as accused No. 5 along with Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, V. Vijaya Sai Reddy, Bharathi Cements Corporation, J. Jagan Mohan Reddy, Silicon Builders, Sandur Power Ltd. Classic Realty, Saraswati Power and Industries Pvt. Ltd and 10 others. Neither the CBI, which has filed the 11 charge sheets in the case, nor the ED, has ever mentioned Ms. Bharathi as an accused prior to this.

The ED which had registered the case against Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and others based on the chargesheet of the CBI in the Raghuram Cements case in 2013, had attached the properties of Jagan and others worth Rs 750 crore, including fixed deposits in the name of Ms Bharati Reddy in the year 2016, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

The ED has stated that money transactions in the name of Ms. Bharathi were found in the Raghuram Cements deal. It has alleged that the funds were routed into Raghuram (Bharathi) Cements through Sandur Power, Caramel Asia Ltd. and other companies using Hawala routes. The ED urged the special court to punish the accused under Section 3 of the PMLA Act.
