RSS, Jamaat-e-Islami cadres may get government jobs

If scrapped, it would allow RSS and Jamaat-e-Islami members to join govt service as the 1966 order so far restricted them from doing so.

New Delhi: Hinting that it might withdraw a five-decade-old order prohibiting RSS and Jamaat-e-Islami cadres from joining government service, the ministry of personnel, public grievances and pensions on Thursday said that “any such existing order will be reviewed”.

If scrapped, it would allow RSS and Jamaat-e-Islami members to join government service as the 1966 order so far restricted them from doing so.

The statement came after reports suggested that a Central government department had cited the same order and asked new recruits in Goa to give a declaration that they did not belong to the RSS. “The Centre has not issued any such order recently. If any old order exists, we will review it in consultation with the ministry of home affairs,” said minister Jitendra Singh told reporters here.

The home ministry had issued the order in 1966 making it mandatory for all new recruits to give a declaration that he is not a member of either the RSS or the Jamaat-e-Islami.
