Hyderabad's Uppal junction to get six-lane clover leaf elevated corridor

The six lane elevated corridor from Uppal Ring road to Narapally will help people travelling from Hyderabad to Warangal.

Hyderabad: The cramped Uppal junction, whose traffic woes were even discussed in Parliament, is getting a six-lane clover leaf elevated corridor from Uppal Ring Road to Narapally.

The Centre has sanctioned Rs 658 crore for the project following complaints about traffic jams at Uppal by Parliamentarians. The 6.4-km long, six-lane elevated corridor will connect L.B. Nagar, Secunderabad Railway station, Ramanthpur and the Warangal highway.

According to a traffic study, 14,68,748 vehicles cross Uppal junction every day and it cannot take the load. According to the National Highway and GHMC authorities, the road needs upgrading to take the increased traffic volume.

The six-lane elevated corridor and six-lane main carriageway (the road below the bridge) will increase the passenger car units (PCU) volume to 5,400 PCU per hour. Now it is just 57,382 PCU a day.

Uppal MLA N.V.S.S. Prabhakar said, “In the last 10-15 years traffic density has increased here leading to severe traffic jams even during non-peak hours. The six-lane elevated corridor will help improve connectivity to Gatkesar and beyond Uppal, Boddu Uppal, Secunderabad, Ramanthpur and L.B. Nagar. The detailed project report has been finalised and it will be sent to the centre for final sanction. After approval the survey and markings will be carried out and land acquisition will be carried out.”
