Delay in degree results causes chaos in Nellore

If not for the announcement of results on Wednesday, the students banking on PG seat in SV University also would have lost the opportunity.

Nellore: The delay by Vikrama Simhapuri University in releasing the degree results has affected the students aspiring for PG seats in Andhra University. As per the rules, degree certificate is a must to take part in the counselling for PG seats. Absence of degree certificate led some students to lose the opportunity to pursue PG though they passed entrance in Andhra University.

If not for the announcement of results on Wednesday (May 8), the students banking on PG seat in SV University also would have lost the opportunity.

A parent Jayarami Reddy said “My son Sai Kumar appeared for B.Sc final year in VR College falling under VSU and he would have bagged the seat in Andhra University if the results were announced before the end of May since the counselling was scheduled for June 1.

He would have lost the chance to secure a seat in SV University also, where the counselling for PG admission is scheduled for Thursday. Fortunately VSU released the results on Wednesday enabling him to rush to Tirupati for counselling,” Mr Reddy said.

According to sources in VSU, internal squabbles between the heads of different departments and some irregularities in the exams department besides difficulties pertaining to coding and valuation has led to the delay in releasing the results.
Though it is eight years since the university was established, the institution lacks infrastructure and even its own campus.

Registrar of the University, Prof P.R. Sivasankar, maintained that the last exam of degree courses was held on April 22 and they have released the results on June 8 a mere one month 16 days later. According to the registrar, they have hired 38 lecturers with minimum three years experience for evaluation of answer papers of 9,900 final year students without any errors.

He said that they took one big hall and eight classrooms in D.K. Women’s College for evaluation but they were asked to vacate when the process was half the way and this had contributed to the delay.

When asked about ordeal of students to secure seats in PG courses in other universities, he underlined the need for government intervention to have a common date for examinations, PG entrance exam and admissions for all the universities to enable students join any university without any hassles.

He also lamented over comparing a new university like VSU with established universities such as SVU and AU when pointed to timely release of results by other universities.
