Chennai: CMRL gears up for launch of last leg metro line

The PM would inaugurate the underground metro rail stations of Thousand Lights, LIC, Government Estate.

Chennai: State Industries Minister M. C. Sampath inspected the Central Metro to check the arrangements that have been made for the launch of last stretch of 45 km phase-1, on Sunday by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami will inaugurate the 10 km stretch from Washermenpet to AG-DMS through video conferencing from Tiruppur at 3.15 pm.

The phase I of the project was completed at a cost of Rs. 19,058 crore and it includes 32 metro stations including 19 underground air conditioned and 13 elevated stations.

The PM would inaugurate the underground metro rail stations of Thousand Lights, LIC, Government Estate, High Court, Mannadi and Washermenpet.

Mr. Sampath who inspected the Central Metro, the underground transit hub, and also the passenger amenities there, held discussions with CMRL MD Pankaj Kumar Bansal and other officials.

Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam, Union Minister of State for Finance and Shipping Pon Radhakrishnan, Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker P. Dhanapal would also attend the function from Tiruppur. At Central Metro, Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri, State Fisheries Minister D. Jayakumar besides Mr. Sampath will be present and board the first metro ride post inauguration.
