Ambedkar varsity now WiFi-enabled

This covers all buildings and offices in a ring topology to provide uninterrupted, high-speed net facility: Prof. H. Lajipathi Rai

Visakhapatnam: Arming the generation next students with technology, Dr. BR Ambedkar University in Srikakulam has gone the Wi-Fi route.

By accomplishing this feat, the varsity has become the first among the six new universities in the state to provide Wi-Fi environment on its total campus. Besides ensuring free internet access to the students, this also paves the university a way to run smart classrooms and e-library.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, BRAU Vice-Chancellor Prof. H. Lajipathi Rai said that about 3,200 metres of optical fibre cable was laid along the length and breadth of the varsity. “This covers all buildings and offices in a ring topology to provide uninterrupted, high-speed net facility. The wireless networking equipment used has cutting-edge technology,” said Prof. Rai.

A student group of the varsity informed that the internet facility can boost their performance in education realm. “We now have the flexibility to access web and can access and exchange resourceful information from anywhere in the campus,” they added.

The Wi-Fi equipment used in the varsity has highest reliable connectivity which uses a 2-layer LAN access design with resilient components. The technology outreach has enabled the villagers adjacent to the university to develop interest in usage of technology. “From an educational standpoint, Wi-Fi has become a common expectation among students. Parents of the students hailing from rural areas are interestingly watching their wards browsing Internet.
