Singur reaches waterless zone, to provide water to 48,000 acres

The minister refered to the allegations made by the Congress over land acquisition for the Mallannasagar and other projects

Hyderabad: Legislative Affairs minister T. Harish Rao on Thursday warned the Opposition, especially the Congress, that he would “expose their dirty politics” during the Assembly Winter Session and “crush them” with befitting responses to each of their allegations against the TRS government.

He was speaking after inaugurating the Singur lift irrigation scheme in Sangareddy district on Thursday to provide water to 48,000 acres for the first time. The minister refered to the allegations made by the Congress over land acquisition for the Mallannasagar and other projects in the erstwhile Medak district and said the government was ready to face any issue brought by the Opposition.

“We are ready to discuss any issue, we are ready to respond. At the same time, the Opposition, especially the Congress, will be crushed in the session over their dirty politics like filing false petitions in the courts in the name of deceased persons,” Mr Harish Rao said. He alleged that the Opposition was trying to stall the development works taken up the government by making baseless allegations.

He said the Congress and TD leaders that had ruled the state had not brought any kind of development during their 60 years in government. The TRS which came to power two-and-a-half years ago had pumped money and dug canals from Singur to supply water to new areas.

Giving an example of how the region suffered all these years, Mr Harish Rao asked, “How can 40,000 acres of land be irrigated with just 2 tmc ft of water allocated by the erstwhile governments.” He said Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had increased the allocation to 4 tmc ft from the Singur dam so that entire area could get water.
