Group politics hits TD women

The episode had taken a tragic end with the suicide.

GUNTUR: Women leaders in the Telugu Desam are facing problems with group politics. Earlier in October, a TD woman leader and former Macharla Municipality chairperson G. Sridevi committed suicide due to forcibly pulling her out from the chairperson’s post.

The TD leadership directed Sridevi to submit resignation to give chairperson post to another TD leader after completion of two-and-a-half years of tenure. The episode had taken a tragic end with the suicide.

Similarly now, a woman TD leader suffered cardiac arrest and is undergoing treatment when she was directed to resign from Mandal Parishad president (MPP) group politics of Bapatla.

A meeting was held in which TD MLC A. Satish Prabhakar ordered Vijetha to quit from MPP post to give opportunity to N. Vydehamma who joined the TD from the YSR Congress.

Severe arguments were registered between the two. Vijetha suffered a heart attack after going home and was shifted to the hospital where she is undergoing treatment.

The TD won the MPP post with the jumping of three YSRC members on July 4, 2014 offering vice-president post to YSRC’s Vydehamma and further promising MPP post after two years.

According to the pact, TD leaders were asking Ms Vijetha to quit the MPP post. Ms Vijetha claimed that their family spent a lot of money to win the election and the TD leaders did not inform about two years tenure for MPP post.

TD Guntur district incharge minister N. China Rajappa, minister for agriculture P. Pulla Rao and Guntur TD president G.V. Anjaneyulu conducted talks with Ms Vijetha but in vain.

TD women leaders, on condition of anonymity, lamented that women were facing bias in the party compared to men and sought stopping of harassing women leaders.

Ms Vijetha’s husband, Vijay Kumar alleged that MLC Prabhakar was putting huge mental pressure on his wife to quit the post which affected her health. He appealed to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to provide justice to his family.
