Congress wants special session on floods, drought: Eshwar Khandre

PM Modi did not undertake an aerial survey of flood hit areas and he did not even pay attention.

Mysuru: KPCC working President Eshwar Khandre said the Congress wants a special assembly session to be convened to discuss measures to address the flood and drought situation in different parts of the state.

He was speaking to the media in Mysuru on Sunday after participating in a protest to condemn the arrest of Congress leader D.K. Shivakumar. He said, “Prime Minister Modi did not undertake an aerial survey of flood hit areas and he did not even pay attention to this during his visit to the state on September 6. The Centre is not responding to the flood situation properly. Will they release funds only after people die due to flood woes?” he said.

He alleged that the BJP indulged in vindictive politics by misusing central agencies like IT and ED wings and creating fear among opposition parties by targeting their prominent leaders and trying to silence them.

“They are mentally harassing D.K. Shivakumar and P. Chidambaram,” he said.

Continuing in the same vein, he said, “the BJP has come to power at the Centre for a second term by chanting 'achche din aayega' and has now completed 100 days in office. But the country's economy is badly hit because of demonetisation and GST. Lakhs of youth have lost their jobs due to the drop in GDP. There has to be an all party meeting soon to discuss if the economy is on the right direction.”

Meanwhile, Chamarajanagar MP Mr V Srinivasprasad clarified that the news of his resignation is false.

Speaking to media persons in Mysuru on Sunday, he reacted to reports on the alleged interference of Mr B.Y. Vijayendra, son of the CM in transfer of officials and said, “If that is true, the CM must pay attention to it.

There has to be transparency in transfers.”
