Hyderabad: Kashmiri student wins Manuu election

Muhammed Ali K of English department named unopposed as Joint Secretary.

Hyderabad: Students of Maulana Azad National Urdu University (Manuu) on Thursday voted in Kashmiri student Tajamul Islam, pursuing a PhD in English, as the president of the students’ union for the first time in the five elections which have been held in the college until now.

Arshad Alam and Shahid Jamal from the commerce and business management department were elected to the posts of vice-president and treasurer while Mohammad Ammar Azam of the education department was elected secretary.

Islam, from Bandipora in Kashmir, said: “The first aim of the panel under ANSA is to eliminate regionalism amongst the students of the university. In this regard, we have already made headway as our elected members come from different states. We also want to focus on bridging the gap between students and administration. We also want to focus on gender disparity in MANUU which is severe.”

“As a Kashmiri representing students of a central university. I also want to work towards decreasing the emotional disconnect between Kashmir and rest of India,” he added.
