Chennai ex-mayor denies encroaching Sidco land

Subramanian said that the objective of the petitioner S. Parthiban was to defame him and this he tried in 2016 during the MLA elections.

Chennai: A day after a public interest litigation was filed in Madras High Court to direct the authorities to take action against former Chennai Mayor and DMK MLA Ma.Subramaniam, for allegedly encroaching a property, owned by Sidco in Guindy, the legislator thanked the petitioner for giving him an opportunity to clarify an age old issue, which according to him has been raked up every two years due to political animosity.

In a statement, Subramanian said that the objective of the petitioner S. Parthiban was to defame him and this he tried in 2016 during the MLA elections.

A similar petition filed before the court after hearing was dismissed recently by a bench headed by Justice Kalaiarasan. Now again Parthiban has taken up the issue with instructions from the ruling AIADMK functionaries.

“Till date the property is not in my name or my wife’s name. We are only enjoying the rights of the land owned by Sidco (Small Industries Development Corporation), for which tax and charges are paid. I have mentioned the same during my election affidavit and since then nothing has changed,” Subramanian told DC.

Recently Sidco has agreed to transfer the property of those residing in its land for decades, similar to the rules followed by slum clearance board and Tamil Nadu Housing board. This is the fact and the same will be furnished before the court, Subramanian told DC.
