Ordinance route can't resolve Ayodhya, says KN Bhat

Even a few Muslim associations stated that they are ready to give up the disputed site, if Lord Rama was born at the place, Mr Bhat said.

Bengaluru: Supreme Court senior counsel K.N. Bhat feels that the Ayodhya dispute pertaining to the building of a Ram temple cannot be resolved through issuance of an ordinance until the Supreme Court dispose the case which is pending before it for adjudication.

Delivering a talk on the subject , organized by Advocates for Democracy Forum here on Friday, Mr. Bhat said, "There is a demand before the Union government to issue an ordinance to construct Ram temple. According to my view, the ordinance is not a solution, it is like giving an injection to a patient for his stomach pain, but the patient doesn't know what is the medicine the doctor injected to get rid of his pain."

"We should wait for the Supreme Court verdict to resolve the dispute. The court will take up the hearing from January 2019 and will conclude the hearing within the time frame.

Meanwhile the Narendra Modi led government should convince the Muslims who are opposing the construction of Ram temple in the disputed site", Mr. Bhat suggested.

The white paper published by the then Congress led government headed by P.V. Narasimha Rao stated that the Centre is committed to resolve the Ayodhya dispute. Even a few Muslim associations stated that they are ready to give up the disputed site, if Lord Rama was born at the place. Based on the white paper, the Union government can convince the Muslim organizations to give up the disputed site for construction of the temple, Mr Bhat said. Though the disputed land is in the control of the Centre, to acquire the said land for construction of the temple, the dispute should be resolved by the Supreme Court, he said.

Retired judge of the Supreme Court, Justice Ashok Hinchgere said Lord Rama is an ideal for all adding that there are many instances to prove that he was born in Ayodhya.
