Hyderabad: Metro comes to rescue with extra trains, staff

Trains ran at a frequency of 6.5 minutes throughout the day.

Hyderabad: Due to the all India transport strike on Tuesday, Hyderabad Metro Rail had a record number of passengers, said Metro Rail officials. Hyderabad Metro Rail clocked approximately 1.5 lakh passengers, which confirmed that it was 'the transportation lifeline' for Hyderabadis on Tuesday said Mr KVB Reddy, MD & CEO, L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Ltd.

Metro stations and trains were completely full on Tuesday and extra trains and manpower were deployed by Metro officials.

Trains ran at a frequency of 6.5 minutes throughout the day. The last train timing had been extended by one hour which meant that it left at 11 pm from both Miyapur and Nagole stations and reached respective destinations at 12.15 am. This was only for Tuesday.

Mr Reddy expressing his happiness on the overall developments of the project said, "Recently, around 92,000 passengers travelled in the Metro on a single day. Today Hyderabad Metro Rail clocked approximately 1.5 lakh passengers. We thank all Hyderabadis for the patronage and trust bestowed on Hyderabad Metro Rail until now."

He added, "Ameerpet to LB Nagar section will be opened to public around the first week of September 2018, if everything goes to plan.”
