Warangal: Rs 3.6 crore seized from kazipet

Warangal: A large pile of cash intended to be distributed to voters was discovered by the Warangal police on Wednesday night.

Sharing the details of the find, Commissioner of Police V. Ravinder said they seized cash amounting to Rs 3.59 crore illegally stored inside a house in Siddarthanagar Colony in Kazipet.

One person named Komma Fathima Reddy alias Francis Reddy was arrested in this regard.

When the police frisked him, they recovered a packet from him on which ‘88, Vadlakonda’ was written. The packet contained Rs 2 lakh in cash. The person also had a list of villages and polling stations in Wardhannapet constituency.

Upon interrogation, he revealed that the money belonged to Wardhannapet Telangana Jana Samiti (TJS) candidate P. Devaiah. Mr Devaiah’s son-in-law Sandeep and Dharmasagar Congress leader Amrutha Rao are friends of Francis Reddy.

On their request, he agreed to dispatch the money meant for voters to the party workers. The money was stored in the house opposite the residence of Amrutha Rao in Siddarthanagar.

The police searched the house and found a large dump of cash. The money was separately packed in covers holding Rs 2 lakh each. They also had names of people and their village.

After searching the house, the police also found papers related to P Devaiah’s online application seeking permission to hold a public meeting in Wardhannapet.
