Hyderabad: Patients at the Osmania General Hospital have to bear the stench from the overflowing drainage in the outpatient block. The drainage pipe is broken and contaminated water is oozing out into the compound from the manhole. Plastic and other wastes dumped in the open drain also add to the woes.
Echoing the general view, Mohammed Yunus, who took his mother, Nasima Begum, to the out-patient department for skin allergies, said, “It is a horrible situation. They say that if you do not like the stench you can go to private hospitals. Hence, we have no option but to wait in this stinking place.”
Most of the outpatients and their relatives were seen taking the tokens fast and moving to safer places to escape the foul smell. Dr Nagendra, superintendent of Osmania General Hospital, said, “It has been brought to our notice and we are going to rectify it. “I have taken the charge only three days ago and sanitation is one of the priorities.”
