Shashi Tharoor house burgled, robbers make away with many valuables

Tharoor said the thieves climbed the wall of his official residence and entered his personal office after breaking the front door.

New Delhi: Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor’s home was burgled on November 29, and the robbers made away with several valuable items including glasses gifted to him by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

According to a report in the Indian Express, several valuable items, including idols and “copper Gandhi glasses” gifted to him by Modi, were stolen from Tharoor’s home.

Following a complaint by Tharoor, a case has been filed under IPC section 380/457 (burglary) at Tughlak Road police station. Several teams of the New Delhi district special staff and the Crime Branch are on the case, said the report.

Tharoor lives in Lodhi Estate in the well-guarded Lutyens’ Zone, residence also to many other MPs and top politicians.

According to Tharoor’s complaint, the thieves climbed the wall of his official residence and entered his personal office after breaking the front door, said the report. They took an antique Nataraja idol, 12 small Ganesha idols, and 10 small Hanuman idols. Twelve 32 GB pen drives and an internet dongle were also stolen, as well as the glasses given to Tharoor by Modi for his participation in the Swacch Bharat campaign.

After registering the case, police have started questioning security guards and drivers working in nearby residences and others living in the vicinity. Prima facie, the theft could be the handiwork of vagabonds, the police were quoted as saying.
