My son Yathindra my political heir: Siddaramaiah

Siddaramaiah made the announcement on his successor during his first visit to Varuna, after Rakesh's sad demise.

Bengaluru: Announcing for the first time that his younger son, Dr Yathindra Siddaramaiah would take on the responsibilities of his older son, Rakesh, who passed away recently, Chief Minister Mr Siddaramaiah appealed to people at a public meeting at Mellalli in his home constituency of Varuna in Mysuru district, to give him the same support they gave his late son.

“As I am busy with state work, it is difficult for me to spend time in my constituency. Dr Yathindra will take care of things in my absence. He had never thought about politics, and his work was his world. I am thankful for all your support ever since 1977. I appeal to you to give the same kind of cooperation to Yatindra too,” he said.

Rakesh Siddaramaiah who was seen as his father’s political heir and had been working in Varuna constituency, had passed away in Belgium after suffering from a pancreatic ailment earlier this year.

There was even speculation that Mr Siddaramaiah may shift from Varuna to Chamundeshwari during the next Assembly elections due in 2018 so that son Rakesh could contest from Varuna but that was not to happen because of his untimely demise.

Mr Siddaramaiah made the announcement on his successor during his first visit to Varuna, after Rakesh’s sad demise. He also laid the foundation stone for various developmental works in Mellalli, Kempegowdanahundi, Meglapura, Rangasamudra, Gargeswari and Byrapura.
