Hyderabad: Dumping of debris stops sewerage flow

To stop the sewerage flow, civic body workers are bringing debris from other places and dumping it on this road.

Hyderabad: Overflowing sewerage along with debris being dumped arbitrarily at Madhavnagar in Miyapur is causing great inconvenience to residents. Numerous complaints over the last few months regarding the sewerage and the unbearable stench have fallen on deaf ears.

A resident and activist, Mr Vinay Vanagala, said, “We have reached out not only to the engineering section but also sanitation officials yet the issue continues to persist. I have complained about this a couple of times over the past two months. To stop the sewerage flow, civic body workers are bringing debris from other places and dumping it on this road. This is only worsening the situation."

It may be mentioned here that due to the reckless dumping of debris, a GHMC worker fell into a septic tank in the same division and died last month.

As major drainage and road restoration works are going on in the area, a lot of debris is being excavated each day. Residents are urging the officials to ensure that the flow of the sewerage is stopped by addressing the source of the problem.

Another resident said, “The situation is so bad that there is practically no road now, yet it is being used by hundreds of citizens every day. At least the sewerage flow should be stopped. There are schools in the vicinity and the spilling of dirty and smelly water will cause health issues.”

When asked, a GHMC official said they would look into the issue and attend to it immediately.
