WARANGAL: The Bogatha waterfall, the Niagara of Telangana state, is once again active after the Cheekupalle stream received flood water due to heavy rains in neighbouring states.
Located about 130 km from Warangal and 280 km from Hyderabad, the place is an abode for nature lovers. Water cascades from a height of about 50 metres into a huge pool encircled with rocks on three sides.
The route leading up to the waterfall is a joy. Visitors pass through the Eturnagaram wildlife sanctuary with its trees on either side of National Highway 163.
The Mulugu district forest department has introduced several adventure activities at the waterfall to add to the experience of the tourists.
District forest officer S.V. Pradeep Kumar Shetty said a zip line and a bike zip line would be the latest attractions. “Apart from these, there is trekking, jungle safari, butterfly garden, Burma bridge, children play area,” he said.
Mr Shetty requested tourists not to consume alcohol in the premises nor venture into restricted areas to avoid any untoward incidents.
Eco-tourism coordinator K. Suman said enthusiasts have a choice of trekking and jungle safari. A newly laid route starting from the entrance would take the trekkers to the top of the waterfall which is about 2.5 km away.
“Tourists who would like to stay overnight can rent rooms at Tadvai, Laknavaram Lake and Ramappa temple. At Tadvai one can stay in well equipped cottages and take part in adventure activities like trekking and cycling. Tourists can call 073826 19363 for more details,” he said. All these spots are in close proximity to the waterfall and can be covered during a weekend trip.
