Now, 2BHK flats on EMI for middle class

Half the cost will be paid by the Centre and the state government.

Hyderabad: The government is working on a plan to provide 2BHK flats in the city on EMI basis to families who are above poverty line but cannot afford to purchase their own houses. Half the cost will be paid by the Centre and the state government, if this proposal goes through. During a recent tour to Delhi, minister K.T. Rama Rao and city mayor Bonthu Rammohan discussed the plan with Union Minister K. Venkaiah Naidu and received positive response, the mayor said.

Mr Rammohan said the scheme would be implemented for families with annual income below '6 lakh and would be open to government and private employees. “We explained the proposal to Mr Naidu and asked for the Centre’s help for finances. The Union minister agreed to provide funds,” he said. He said that for every Rs 9 lakh 2BHK flat, the plan expects Rs 2.5 lakh from the Centre and the state government will provide Rs 2 lakh. “The remaining 50 per cent, or Rs 4.5 lakh, will be paid by the beneficiary” he said.

“We will assist the beneficiaries in getting bank loans. The beneficiaries should pay 30 per cent (Rs 1.35 lakh) of their share before the construction of the flats, on par with the other housing schemes for the poor,” he said.
