AAP, BJP workers face-off outside Patiala House court

Police said 35 AAP and BJP workers were detained as a preventive measure to prevent a clash between the two groups.

New Delhi: AAP and BJP workers on Thursday engaged in a slogan war outside Patiala House court before Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and five leaders of his party appeared for a hearing in a criminal defamation case filed by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

Before the commencement of the hearing, workers of BJP and AAP gathered outside gate number 2 of the Patiala House Court complex and shouted slogans against each other.

Police said 35 AAP and BJP workers were detained as a preventive measure to prevent a clash between the two groups.

"They shouted slogans against each other outside the courtbefore the hearing started but did not clash. 35 of them were detained to avoid any untoward situation," said a senior police officer.

Kejriwal and five other AAP leaders were on Thursady granted bail by the court. "As per my information no partymen were involved in any clash and none was detained by the police," Delhi BJP spokesman Praveen Kapoor said.
