Kozhikode: RTC pensioners fail to get benefits

However, the employees are planning legal measures against the KSRTC for acting against the court order, he pointed out.

Kozhikode: The pensioners of Kerala State Road Transport Corporation(KSRTC) do not receive the post-service benefits even after many months due to the treasury restrictions. Though many received the cheques for the amount, the treasury account of KSRTC has been frozen, according to the pensioners.

The KSRTC has distributed cheques worth Rs 10 crore so far but all of them bounced as the account has been put under freeze, it is said.

An official who preferred anonymity said that there was Rs 20 crore in the account of KSRTC but the finance department had refused to operate it due to the financial crunch in treasury.

This is happening despite an earlier High Court order to ensure sufficient funds in the account of the KSRTC to provide the pension benefits to retired employees. The retirees receive the cheques after many months and when they submit the cheques in the bank, they are told that the account is frozen, said Vijayan Madakkimala, a former KSRTC employee.

In an earlier case, the High Court had insisted that 10 percent of the daily revenue of KSRTC should be remitted to a special account which is monitored by the court. If KSRTC wants to withdraw the money in case of excess funds it can avail of the money with the concurrence of the court.

However, the employees are planning legal measures against the KSRTC for acting against the court order, he pointed out.
