Oomen Chandy to open Mahilalayam bridge today

The bridge is 430-metre long. It has a carriage way of 7 metres.

Kochi: Chief minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the 430-metre long Mahilalayam Turuth bridge across Periyar River, one of the two main bridges to realise the Seaport-Airport Road Phase 11, on Sunday.

“The other one is the Turuth-Toombakadavu bridge (Rs 17 crore), the work of which is also in the final stages. We expect construction activities on the key Chowwara section to be over in the next four months,” said Anwar Sadath MLA.

Phase 11 of the Seaport-Airport four-lane stretch would be over after the completion of NAD to Mahilalayam (3 km) and Chowara to Airport (3 km) stretches.

The Rs 33-crore Mahilalayam Turuth bridge was included in the Rs 100 bridges in 400 days’ project.

The bridge with 12 spans has a carriageway of seven metres and 12.25 metres width.
