Hubballi: Former CM Siddaramaiah has defended the demand for a separate flag for Karnataka and lamented that the state government has not received the green signal for it years after sending a report to the Centre.

He was speaking at the Akhil Bharat Kannada Sahitya Sammelana in Dharwad on Sunday.

Stating that he has always been a supporter of united Karnataka, he said that the demand for statehood for North Karnataka is a conspiracy hatched by some politicians to meet their personal goals.

Resolutions
The sammelan passed a resolution urging the state government to withdraw its decision to start 1,000 English medium schools from the next academic year. It demanded that primary education should be nationalised to protect the interests of Kannada language. The sammelan also resolved that competitive exams being conducted by the Centre should be held in Kannada. It urged the government to reduce the duration of the state anthem, ‘Jaya Bharatha Jananiya Thanu Jathe’ to two minutes and 30 seconds.
