YSRC to take action against defectors

Venkaiah Naidu disqualified two MPs on charges of defection.

Vijayawada: The recent decision of the Rajya Sabha Vice Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu to disqualify two MPs on charges of defection, has given enough oxygen to YSRC to take up the defected MPs issues again with the Lok Sabha Speaker. Four YSRC MPs — Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy (Telangana), Kottapalli Geetha, S.P.Y. Reddy and Butta Renuka of Andhra Pradesh, defected to TRS and TD, respectively. Now, the YSRC has again taken up the issue with the Speaker, with which the TD is alert to counter the moves of YSRC.

It may be recalled that the Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu, who is also the Rajya Sabha chairman, on Monday disqualified rebel Janata Dal United leader Sharad Yadav and Ali Anwar as members of the Upper House of Parliament. Sharad Yadav and Ali Anwar Ansari have incurred disqualification for being Members of the House in terms of paragraph 2 (1)(a) of the 10th Schedule to the Constitution of India. Both of them have thus ceased to be a Member of the Rajya Sabha with immediate effect, according to the Rajya Sabha Chairman.

Citing this as an example, the YSRC is now urging the Lok Sabha Speaker to disqualify the four defected MPs, TRS and TD. Speaking on this, the YSRC spokesperson Mr T.J.R. Sudhakar Babu said that the YSRC MPs have met with the Lok Sabha Speaker to take a call on disqualifying the four MPs, who defected to TD and TRS. While welcoming the Rajya sabha Chairman’s decision to disqualify the two MPs of JD(U), he demanded the AP Assembly Speaker Dr Kodela Shivaprasad Rao to deliver his verdict, on the defected MLAs of YSRC.

The privileges committee of Parliament, which is looking into the disqualification petitions filed by the Opposition parties, is learnt to have come to the conclusion that the defected MPs deserved to be disqualified. From AP, three YSRC MPs – S.P.Y. Reddy of Nandyal, Kothapalli Geetha of Araku and Butta Renuka of Kurnool – are facing disqualification for defecting into the ruling Telugu Desam. However, except S.P.Y. Reddy who officially resigned from the YSRC and joined the TD, the other two MPs – Geetha and Renuka are playing safe. Though they shifted their loyalties to the TD, they did not join the TD officially and are technically still with the YSRC as they have not resigned from the party.
