Two die after consuming hooch in Dindigul

However, Thangapandi (50) who had also consumed the illicit liquor was admitted to Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai.

Chennai: Two died in a village in Dindigul after they consumed hooch officers said on Wednesday. The incident happened in Pallapatti village in Dindigul district.

The deceased have been identified as Murugan (48) of Kavundanpatti and Sairam (60) of Sandarlarpuram.

However, Thangapandi (50) who had also consumed the illicit liquor was admitted to Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai.

According to the sources, the trio consumed the illicit liquor bought from a petty shop at Pallapatti and after consuming hooch suspected to be laced with methanol they collapsed one after another.

On being informed, the Ammaiyanaickanur police rushed to the spot and shifted them to Vadipatti Government Hospital where doctors declared Murugan and Sairam dead on arrival. Thangapandi was referred to Government Rajaji Hospital.

The district superintendent of police R Sakthivel and other higher officials reached the village and conducted inquiries. Further investigations are under progress.
