Bengaluru: Techie accidentally burns self to death

Does the unthinkable trying to recover money from acquaintance.

BENGALURU: A techie succumbed to burns on Tuesday morning, nearly a week after he accidentally lit himself. The deceased, Ritesh Kumar, 38, was a resident of L.B. Shastri Nagar and a software engineer at a private company.

Last year, Ritesh had given Rs 2.5 lakh to Aditya, who is the owner of a tutorial, to get his seven-year-old son a seat in a reputed school. But Aditya failed to get the admission. Ritesh demanded his money back and after pushing it for many months, Aditya returned Rs 1.5 lakh in August. Ritesh kept asking him to return the remaining Rs 1 lakh, but Aditya was trying to convince him that he will get the admissions done this year and refused to give the money back.

On Wednesday night, Ritesh was angry and took a bottle of petrol and tried to threaten Aditya by pouring petrol on himself. He gave a matchstick to Aditya and asked him to return the money or set him on fire. Aditya asked for 10 days to return the money and before he could say anything, Ritesh lit the matchstick to threaten him, but fire engulfed him immediately by accident. He was rushed to a hospital, where he died on Tuesday morning. The J.P. Nagar police have registered a case.
