Bengaluru: ACB files FIR against two government officials

On Friday, the ACB had written to the IT department requesting information on the raids conducted on the houses of the two officials.

Bengaluru: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) registered the first information report on Monday against the two government officials, based on the report given by the Income Tax department that had conducted searches in the houses of the two officials.

ACB officials said that Chikkarayappa, Managing Director of the Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Ltd., and Jayachandra, Chief Project Officer of the Karnataka State Highways Improvement Project, were booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, after examining the preliminary report given by the IT department.

On Friday, the ACB had written to the IT department requesting information on the raids conducted on the houses of the two officials. Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, IGP of the ACB, M.A. Saleem said that the ACB will investigate the matter further. “More than the new currency that were found during the raids, we will focus on how the accused officials amassed wealth against their known sources of income. We have registered the FIR for having disproportionate assets and we carry out the probe like in any other DA case. Our focus will be only on the two officials, and not the others involved in the case.”

Further, Mr Saleem said that as part of the probe, the ACB will exchange information with the IT department, CBI and the Enforcement Directorate, which are also probing the case.
