Tax revenue likely to shoot up

It was found that the landowners had not updated the records resulting in the land being treated as agricultural.

Adilabad: The ongoing land records purification of the state government is likely to result in an increase in tax revenues as many agriculture lands were found to have been put to commercial use.

These land parcels were converted into real estate plots, function halls or were hosting shops, educational institutions and private hospitals in the villages and agency areas and near towns in old Adilabad district. For example, this was seen in Chanda (T) in Adilabad Rural mandal, Battisavergoan and Mavala gram panchayats and in agency areas such as Gudihathnoor, Ichoda, Neredigonda, Narnoor, Jainoor, Kerameri, Utnoor and Asifabad mandals.

These lands will now be registered under the commercial category and levied with more taxes which would increase revenue to the government.

It was found that the landowners had not updated the records resulting in the land being treated as agricultural. The owners of these land were getting crop loans from the banks and loan waiver, too. They were thus evading taxes under various categories for putting the land to commercial use, and gram panchayats and municipalities like Mancherial, Nirmal, Adilabad and many others were revenue, an official said.

Many non-tribals encroached government-assigned lands in Agency areas and want to convert them into commercial plots to make huge money. For this, the non-tribals are demanding that the government relax the 1/70 Act, which prohibits outsiders from buying land in Agency areas, and issue them ownership documents.
