Valarmathi parents hail high court order

Her parents, Madaiyan and Kamala on Tuesday said that justice has prevailed with the High Court cancelling Goondas Act.

Salem: Hailing the High Court order cancelling detention of their daughter under Goondas Act, parents of journalism student Valarmathi also sought to cancel cases allegedly foisted on her by police.

Valarmathi was arrested by Salem city police on August 12 for issuing hand bills in support of Neduvasal and Kadiramangalam protests with anti government slogans. She was also detained under the Goondas Act as several such cases were pending against her in other districts.

Her parents, Madaiyan and Kamala on Tuesday said that justice has prevailed with the High Court cancelling Goondas Act. “We will move the court seeking a compensation of Rs 10 lakhs for the physical and mental torture inflicted on our daughter by the Tamil Nadu government. Also, all fake cases foisted on her should be cancelled,” they said.

The parents also said that Valarmathi will continue to fight for issues concerning the public, once she comes out of prison and will never bow down to any pressures from the government.
