Karnataka DySP MK Ganapati case: Court seeks CID report by September 19

While Kodagu police, who were handling the investigation until now, were expected to submit a report on Friday to JMFC, Madikeri.

Mysuru: The CID, which has once again taken over the investigation into the suicide of DySP M.K. Ganapati, that cost Bengaluru Development Minister K J George his job recently, has been given time till September 19 to submit its report by the principal civil judge of the JMFC, Madikeri.

CID DySP E.B. Sridhar took over the investigation into the case from the Kodagu SP on Friday on the orders of the Director General and Inspector General of Police, who acted on the observations of the High Court that with the accused being senior officers, the inquiry must be conducted by officers even senior to them in the interest of impartiality.

The High court’s observations came in response to a criminal petition filed before it by the accused officers, Pramod Mohanty and A M Prasad questioning the order of the principal magistrate of the JMFC asking the police to register a case and file FIRs against them on the basis of a private criminal complaint filed by Mr Ganapati’s son, Nehal.

While Kodagu police, who were handling the investigation until now, were expected to submit a report on Friday to JMFC, Madikeri, CID on taking over filed an application appealing for more time, and was granted a few weeks more by the court.
