Hyderabad: Chandu Goud of Sircilla district, in what many termed as a befitting reply to the relentless fuel price hikes, has donated 9 paise to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund.
Mr Goud submitted a cheque at the Collector’s office during the Praja Vani programme held in the district on Monday. “The Modi-led government has decreased petrol price by 9 paise per litre. The same amount has been donated to NPMRF. Hope it serves some purpose,” said Chandu Goud.

A real estate dealer and a resident of Chandrampet mandal, Chandu Goud, 38, said, “After 16 days of relentless fuel price hikes, the government decided to reduce the price by 9 paise. Last Sunday, I purchased a litre of petrol for Rs 83, later in the day, the price was reduced by 9 paise. The following morning the petrol bunk staff charged me Rs 82.91 per litre on the bill. However they did not return the change due to lack of small change. Though the government is reducing prices by a few paise, most people do not bother to ask for the change because it is so little.”

He added, “From my savings account, I issued a cheque of 9 paise towards Prime Minister relief fund and submitted it to the district collector. The fuel price hike has hit farmers the most as it has become difficult for them to fill adequate diesel and petrol in their tractors and other agricultural equipment.”
Sircilla collector Mr Krishna Basker said, “The cheque has been sent to the concerned wing of the PMRF.”
Telangana collects 35.2 percent VAT on petroleum products in the State which makes the prices of petrol and diesel reach sky-high in the State. Earlier in May, both the petrol and diesel prices touched a record high of Rs 76.24 and Rs 67.57 per litre respectively.
