Warangal: With the state government having chosen Warangal wherein to implement its pilot project, introducing English medium education, the district administration has started making arrangements for this to take place in 476 schools across the district. Nearly 1,500 teachers are undergoing training at various schools across the district under the aegis of the English Language Teachers Association.
Additional joint collector of Warangal Thirupati Rao, who is overseeing the training sessions, said that the main objective of this drive was to increase enrolment in government schools.
“Teachers play a major role in increasing the standard of any school. It is their responsibility to prove that government schools are capable of providing education to students on par with private ones. Most students in villages are afraid of learning English, but it is the responsibility of the teachers to encourage them and help them overcome this fear,” he said.
Now, government school teachers are on an enrolment drive across the district, scouting for students. With student enrolment decreasing by the year, teachers are taking part in the drive to motivate parents to have their children join government schools.
They are going door to door, explaining to villagers about the benefits of studying in government schools, also showing them how their Class X students had scored good GPAs this year. Some schools, such as Government High School, Gangiernigudem in Shyampet, have released pamphlets about their facilities and the newly-introduced English medium propgramme.
The district administration is also aiming to take the district’s literacy rate to 100 per cent. Education minister Kadiam Srihari launched the literacy drive on June 2 which will take education to 3.20 lakh people.
