The land acquisition has taken place in two phases in Whitefield.

Bengaluru: The work on Metro phase 2 works is picking as land acquisitions in Mysuru line and Whitefield line is almost over and demolition work have begun at places.

Interestingly, in order to help commuters travel smoothly unaffected by the metro work, BMRCL officials have assured that the area of road that will be taken up for metro construction, the same will be constructed on the both side of the road. Besides, a service road will be constructed towards the area where metro stations will come up.

The land acquisition has taken place in two phases in Whitefield namely from Baiyappanahalli to Vydehi Hospital and from the hospital to Whitefield. Acquisitions have been completed till Vydehi and demolitions have begun.

However, a few properties situated between the hospital and Whitefield are yet to be served with final notice. As soon as demolition is completed in the first part, road widening work will be taken up. This will be followed by land acquisition from Vyedhi hospital to Whitefield.

Regarding Phase 2, BMRCL spokeperson Vasanth Rao said, “In Kanakapura and Electronics City, land acquisition is complete, demolition will start soon. NCC will construct in Kanakapura line. In Electronics City the existing service road will be used for metro piers and a separate service road will be created for the commuters.”

Work on Metro Phase I is slowly inching towards completion, but Phase II is more critical as it will provide last mile connectivity, serve the real purpose and increase patronage. Phase 2 will link many more corners of the city, especially major IT corridors. The city can boast of a real metro network only when both Phase 1 of 42.30 km and Phase 2 of 72.1 km are complete.
