Hyderabad: The Telangana State Council for Higher Education (TSCHE) chairman Prof N. Papi Reddy on Thursday said that no decision has been taken regarding discontinuation of Eamcet, either for engineering or agriculture and other streams. He said that the state council has not been consulted by the government on this issue so far.
Replying to a query about the future of the two entrance tests in the state, he said that TSCHE will present its views whenever asked.
The statement assumes importance in the wake of the recent comments by Education Minister Kadiyam Srihari who questioned the need for engineering entrance test in view of seats going unfilled in colleges in the state.
It is also learnt that there will be no change in format of the entrance test for filling seats in agriculture, pharmacy, and veterinary and other colleges.It will be of the same pattern like before.
It may be mentioned here that Bi.PC students will be writing NEET, which is of a different format compared to Eamcet, for getting admissions into medical and dental colleges.
Mr. Papi Reddy said that they have written to the University Grants Commission (UGC) regarding study centres of some universities from the North offering agriculture and other courses to students in the state capital.
As regards appointments of vice-chancellors to three universities-Satavahana, Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts, Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (IIIT-Basar), the council chairman said that the government may announce names of the new heads after the Assembly session. The ECs to various universities will also be appointed at the earliest, he added.
