Chennai: RK Nagar has highest third gender voters

CHENNAI: Chennai corporation commissioner and district election officer D. Karthickeyan on Thursday released the final voters' roll of Chennai comprising 16 assembly constituencies.

R.K. Nagar constituency of former chief minister Jayalalithaa now has total electorate of 2,62,721 voters including 1.34 lakh women voters. The high profile labour dominated constituency scheduled for a by-poll within the next four months also has the maximum number of third gender voters in Chennai ( 109 voters).

In general, city constituencies have a minimum of 1.9 lakh voters to a maximum of 3 lakh voters. Egmore, Harbour and Royapuram located in the old part of Chennai continues to have less number of electors. South Chennai has constituencies with more voters including Velachery, Saidapet and Virugambakkam.

A press release from Ripon Buildings said Chennai will now have a total electorate of 40,58,602 voters including 20,51,598 women voters.

The release further said that as many as 11,339 entries were deleted on account of shifting, death and duplicate entries.

In case of inclusion mostly from those attaining the age of 18 year the city saw a total increase of 82,000 voters including 41,745 first time voters. The city electorate saw an increase of 1.79 per cent from the previous year. Electors Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) for the new electors are being printed and will be delivered through the booth level officers by February 10, the release added.

According to state election department sources all district collectors in TN released the final list of voters and on the National Voters day on January 25, a series of campaign promoting the concept of your vote is your right will be taken up along the with the fresh enumerations from new aspiring voters turning 18 in the coming year. At present provisions had been made at all the e-seva centres to distribute colour photo ID cards of the voters and there is a good response for the new voter IDs.
