Hyderabad: Manic Monday for traffic

Travel time stretched to hours; most failed to login in time.

Hyderabad: It was virtual Monday Blues for the city folk, particularly those working in Gachibowli, Kondapur, Madhapur, Hitec City, Jubilee Hills and Banjara Hills as traffic choked and went haywire bringing movements on the roads to a halt.

In the total gridlock, what normally takes a few minutes of travel time stretched to hours with most employees failing to login at the regular time. Of course, the reasons were inexplicable and went beyond the ongoing stir by the RTC and bad roads.

“Not only were my team members but even I logged in late,” says Sirisha K., who works as a team leader in one of the MNCs situated at Mind Space. She quipped, “Traffic congestion is commonplace but today it was nightmarish.”

“Most of my morning was literally on the roads as I had to shuttle around Gachibowli, Madhapur and Banjara Hills, where our sites are coming up,” says Balaji Vasanth, owner of a construction company.

A recently published study has revealed that caught in traffic and spending hours on the road in exasperation could trigger psychological illnesses. Are the authorities listening?
