SRINGAR: Unidentified militants on Tuesday night fired at a police station in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, but there was no damage, police said. Militants fired at police station Yaripora in Kulgam at 7.45 pm, a police official said here. He said the firing was retaliated by the police personnel.

There are no reports of loss of life or injury to anyone in the firing, the official said, adding further details were awaited.

Meanwhile, a police spokesman said barring two incidents of arson and a stray incident of stone-pelting, the situation in the Valley remained by and large peaceful even as 57 more persons were arrested during the past 24 hours.

He said two autorickshaws — one at Bhagwanpora near Kralakhud and another at Rainawari near Polytechnic College Saidakadal — were set ablaze by unidentified miscreants in their attempt to “disturb the situation”.
