Bengaluru: Domlur flyover remains a dumping ground

Lorries with construction waste too unload under the flyover and also into the storm water drain running below it.

Bengaluru: A day after Deputy Chief Minister Dr G. Parameshwar went around Domlur and directed officials to clear the accumulated garbage under the flyover and to prevent dumping, not an inch moved at the spot on Tuesday

Ms Latha, a resident of Domlur Layout, is furious that the mess below the flyover has not been cleared for many years. "The residents are also to blame. Those who don't hand over the garbage to pourakarmikas, carry it in their vehicles and fling it across while passing by," she complained.

It has become a dumping ground for pushcart vendors too who throw tender coconut shells, corn waste, rinds of fruits, rotten vegetables and food waste below the flyover. The waste attracts stray dogs and cows, posing a danger to the residents. Lorries with construction waste too unload under the flyover and also into the storm water drain running below it, the residents complained.

"For years, officials have been promising us that CCTV cameras would be installed at the spot to catch the offenders. But nothing has been done till date," they said.

Pointing to the First Cross in Domlur, which has been converted into Ajja-Ajji Road (stretch for senior citizens), they said that similar political will is needed to clear the mess under the Domlur flyover.

Mayor Sampath Raj was not available for comment.
