Karimnagar: Dalit prisoner dies, family stages protest

Karimnagar RDO Raja Goud, who conducted an inquiry into the death, and said that the authorities are waiting for the post-mortem report.

KARIMNAGAR: A prisoner, K Venkatesh, of Bahupet in Karimnagar died while undergoing treatment at a government hospital in Karimnagar on Thursday night. He belonged to the Dalit community.

Deceased person's family members on Friday alleged that Venkatesh died due to the injuries inflicted by the police while he was in custody. The family members staged a protest against the death of Venkatesh.

Five theft cases were pending against him in Gambhiraopet and Yellareddipet mandals in Sircilla district. The Gambhiraopet police reportedly took him to custody. He was admitted to the hospital after his health condition deteriorated on July 26.

Karimnagar RDO Raja Goud, who conducted an inquiry into the death, and said that the authorities are waiting for the post-mortem report.
